Regulatory authority in Moldova gives into political pressure, 03 Sep 2015

Today, the Energy Regulator of Moldova ANRE suspended (for 60 days) the decisions taken on 18 July 2015 adopting electricity distribution tariffs and increasing supply prices for end-customers.

This constitutes a serious blow to the institution’s previous attempts to comply with Moldova’s obligations from the Energy Community Treaty and to close an open infringement action initiated by the Secretariat. It also confirms once again the lack of independence of the regulatory authority which is contrary to key principles of the Energy Community as well as of the Republic of Moldova.
