Albanian adoption
of the Third Energy Package in the Electricity Law

The
closing of the previous week, on 30th April 2015, seen the enacted of the Albanian
New Law of the Energy Sector.
A
process that ranks the country in the second post among the rest of the WBs (only
Serbia have done it until now) that adopt the Third Energy Package in the
electricity sector. A transposition that take particular importance in view of
the step back that have seen so far the FYR of Macedonia failure to liberalise
electricity market in line with binding Energy Community deadline.
Then
the country gives an important signal, probably also due to its guide role as
the actual holder of the Energy Community Presidency for the 2015, in the path
on the reforms necessary to be followed by the other member of the Energy
Community.
Indeed
the importance of the law goes far beyond formal compliance with EU
legislation. The law consolidates the reforms taken so far in this sector,
which have been neglected by the country from a long period in the past. In
last not to forget it constitutes a decisive step forward on a long path of
energy reforms in Albania for which it lays a solid foundation.
