Turkey’s transmission system operator Botas to increase cooperation with EU’s ENTSOG and Secretariat

The Energy Community Secretariat hosted today a meeting between the European Network of TSOs for gas (ENTSOG) and high level representatives of Turkish gas company Botas, which is responsible also for operating the Turkish transmission gas system.
Both ENTSOG, represented by its General Manager Vittorio Musazzi, and the Secretariat, represented by Director Kopač, outlined the potential benefits of BOTAS becoming an observer in ENTSOG in the near future and offered their assistance in this process.
ENTSOG and the Secretariat also advised BOTAS on the practical implementation of the soon to be adopted gas law in Turkey, which would prescribe the unbundling of transmission operators.
The implementation of gas network codes was also discussed. Given the interconnections between European and Turkish gas systems and the similarity of the challenges ahead, it was agreed to increase joint cooperation.
